I have a thing for home
remodeling. When people are remodeling their houses, I’m always fascinated to
see what they have decided to do. That’s why I’ve watched so many home
improvement shows over the years. I want to know what decisions the designers
make and how it turns out in the end.
The one problem with this is, I
have a tendency to argue with what the designers decide to do. One of the
biggest places this happens is with the kitchen backsplash. A big feature of
the kitchen, designers love to make the backsplash out of little pieces. Lots
of little pieces. This type of backsplash can be quite stunning, I will admit
that, but do you want to know what I see? Grout. Lots and lots of grout. And all
of it needing to be cleaned.
This grout cleaning is why my
quilt Backsplash is so exciting. In the quilt, the sashing represents
the grout of a backsplash, but unlike real grout, you don’t have to scrub it
clean! Instead, wash it like you would any other quilt. Also, while I do have
my fabric requirements in quarter yards, this quilt can easily be made with
precuts. Other than the sashing, the only fabric I used for the quilt top was a
roll of 40 2-1/2” x 40” precut strips. That’s it. That’s all it takes to make
this quilt top. Now, if only real backsplashes were that easy.
