Which Way Is Up?

Sometimes in life there is so much going on, it’s hard to tell which way is up.  The answer is not always obvious, if there is an answer at all!  All you can do is choose a direction, and hope it is the right one.  Which brings me to my pattern, Which Way Is Up?
This pattern reminds me of stairs.  Or maybe an escalator.  But with the stair effect created by both the main and background fabrics, I have to wonder, which way is up?  Turn the quilt in any direction, and the answer changes.  Are the stairs to climb the main fabrics?  Or are they the background fabrics?  And how do I know they won’t take me down instead of up?
No matter what answer you come up with to these questions, this quilt is not at all hard to make.  It’s also really fast, especially if you use a 40-piece set of 2-1/2” x 40” precut strips.  With this being an easy and fast quilt, Which Way Is Up? is perfect to take on retreat or do when you need a quilt done yesterday.
