Finger Paint

Several years ago, Tim Burton had an exhibit of his artwork in New York.  While I would have loved to see it in person, I wasn’t able to.  I was, however, able to get the book that went along with the exhibit.  As I flipped through the pages, I kept coming back to the drawings of Edward Scissorhands.  It is a movie I love and I found the renderings of the character fascinating.
As I looked at Edward Scissorhands, I started to think about hands in general and how to put them into a quilt block. This was not an easy task. It took a lot of trial and error, but eventually I came up with Finger Paint. Each block has two hands that can only be seen when you look for them. If I didn’t know they were there, I don’t know if I would see them myself, which is part of what I like most about this pattern. The influence is there, but it’s not all at the same time.
