Quarter Yard Test

When we’re trying to figure out what fabric to use as a sashing, border, or binding, we often buy a quarter yard of the fabric we’re thinking about using.  This way we can take the fabric home and test it out without buying a lot of something we’re not going to end up using for the project.  A quarter yard we can always use somewhere.  More than that may take longer to figure out.

Of course, buying only a quarter yard does put us at risk of the fabric not being at the store when we go back.  That’s why when it’s a really great fabric, or one of our favorite colors, we buy far more then a quarter yard.  While a great fabric may not be used for the current project, it will always somehow get used in the future.
